Ashgrove State School is one of the few state primary schools in Brisbane to be fully air-conditioned. All 31 classrooms along with the Hall, Music Rooms, Outside School Hours Care, Library and JB Stephens Centre are fully air-conditioned. This has been a considerable investment by the school P&C Association over a long period of time to have such first class facilities for our students.
The development and use of computer technology has been a feature of Ashgrove State School over many years. Features of the school’s program and resources include:
a) 15 dedicated BYO iPad classes involving over 375 students;
b) 110 school iPads housed in mobile trolleys for use by other classes and students;
c) A local school network connecting every classroom and iPad to Education Queensland’s Managed Internet Service;
d) A computer lab with 30 computers connected to the Internet and a network printer;
e) 30 wireless enabled laptops housed in mobile trolleys used by students;

i) A Green Screen Studio to enhance video recording;
j) 3 desktop computers or laptops with print capability in each non iPad class;
k) H3C WA2600 series wireless access points throughout the school.
The grounds at Ashgrove State School are well maintained and have been developed to enhance both their practical and aesthetic value. Attention has been given to providing shade both through tree planting and shade structures. The junior school is well catered for with planned playground areas which provide fun play areas and outdoor learning environments.
The school has a large hall built in 2011 as part of the Federal Government BER initiative (Building Education Revolution). This facility has multi-purpose flooring which allows it to be used as a teaching venue for PE lessons. It is also equipped with a sound system and drop down screen and projector. The venue is used for school assemblies, presentations, performances and other school functions. It is available to be hired for outside school functions.
Library – Resource Centre
The school Library Resource Centre was constructed in 2010 and forms one of the hubs of the school. It features an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction books as well as other resource and recreational material in this facility. The library management system is fully computerised and is connected through the school network to the internet. Materials are available for borrowing by students, teachers, staff and parents. This wonderful resource centre is situated underneath our School Hall and features break out rooms as well as the latest in technology.
This building was provided through fundraising of the school’s P & C Association and financial assistance from the State Government. It provides an excellent multipurpose facility to host instrumental music activities, class presentations, professional development and other presentations. The JB Stephens Centre has recently been refurbished to allow for a second music teaching space.
Outside School Hours Care
Outside School Hours Care is operated by the YMCA and has a building on the school oval. This enables OHSC staff to create a more homely environment for the children. This building will also be available during the day for school use. The building is owned by the school and was provided through fundraising of the school’s P&C Association.
These facilities include tennis courts, netball courts, cricket pitch, cricket practice wickets and the oval. When not being used by the school these facilities are available for community use. Junior Cricket teams use the school oval for practice and week-end competition.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen/Garden
The school ispart of the exciting Stephanie Alexander Kitchen garden. Students in years 3 to 6 are involved in this program. The program features extensive gardens which grow foods that are used in students healthy lessons. As part of the program a purpose built indoor teaching kitchen was contructed in 2014 which allows entire classes to receive cooking lessons in a unique state of the art facility.
This facility, being on site, ensures all students from Prep to Year 6 receive basic swimming instruction from our Specialist Physical Education Teacher. As the school has a pool on site, our children have the advantage of receiving more tuition time. The pool is solar and gas heated, making the water temperature comfortable throughout the year.
The pool is leased outside school hours by Swim and Co Ashgrove who operate Learn to Swim, Stroke Correction and Squad Training. Swim and Co can be contacted on email: firstname.lastname@example.org
or phone Michele Stevens on 0417003977.
The school has two tennis courts. The tennis courts can be hired by community members outside of school hours. The P&C manage the hire of the courts via the purchse of a tennis court key for $50 which entitles you to unlimited use subject to availability. An additional key is needed for night lights for an extra charge of $30. Please contact Janice in the school office for purchase of a tennis key via email email@example.com.
Tennis coaching is available before and after school for students. Contact The Gap Health & Racquet Club on 3300-6668 or Tony Dudgeon Coaching P/L on 0401 972 978.
