Parents' and Citizens' Association

Welcome!

On behalf of the Ashgrove State School Parents’ and Citizens’ Association I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Ashgrove State School Community.

Ashgrove State School is fortunate to have a strong and active school community. The Parents’ and Citizens’ Association works with the principal, staff and broader school community to provide a range of benefits to our children including:

• fundraising activities to supplement school facilities and resources;
• planning future improvements;
• regular forum for the collaborative resolution of issues;
• provision of a quality tuckshop service; and
• providing social functions that also help to foster community spirit.

There are a number of sub-committees of the P & C that assist in specific areas. These sub-committees are:

• Swimming Club: this group coordinates the Ashgrove Aces and conducts regular social and competitive meetings;
• Tuckshop Committee: this group oversees the management of the tuckshop and ensures that it provides a quality service to the school;
• Clothing Store: this facility provides parents with the opportunity to conveniently access all of their children’s uniform requirements;
• Music Support Group: this group of parents conduct fundraising and provide other support to the various bands and other musical groups at Ashgrove State School;
• Art Support Group: this group of parents supports and assists with a range of activities related to arts and crafts; and
• IT Support Group: this group assists with the ongoing development and improvement of information technology facilities and activities.

Together, and with the support of many other members of the school community, these groups have achieved a number of significant improvements for the school including:

• planning and running an extremely successful annual fete;
• modifications to classrooms to reduce traffic noise;
• air conditioning for most classrooms;
• construction of the JB Stephens Centre;
• widening of the school pool;
• improved tuckshop facilities and services;
• construction of a new playground for years 3 and 4; and,
• school website and improved information technology facilities at the school.

I would strongly encourage you to join with us in working with the school to provide improved facilities for our children’s education and to also meet other parents and become part of the Ashgrove State School community spirit.

P&C Achievements

The following is a list of achievements that the P&C have been instrumental in gaining for the benefit of the students of Ashgrove State School over the last few years.  This list has come about after discussions at the P&C that many people often comment/ask where money from fundraising such as the fete goes towards.

  • J B Stephens Centre (Building was funded by the P&C who utilised a loan which is still currently being paid off).
  • Widening of the swimming pool and upgrading of canteen facilities in this precinct (This was funded through a loan which has only this year been paid off).
  • Extensions to the tuckshop which doubled the size of the tuckshop. (A loan was used and has been repaid).
  • Mural in undercover area
  • Funding of the master plan
  • Cricket net upgrades
  • Developing the computer lab including installing 30 computers.  (This cost in excess of $100,000 to establish and made the school one of the few primary schools with a lab that all children in one class can access a computer at the same time).

The following have been achieved through P&C advocacy:

As people can see from the above list extensive work has occurred at our school to improve the educational facilities for our children.  These were achieved through fundraising, obtaining grants and successful advocacy.  The P&C have a paid position which has been successful in obtaining many grants for the school over the last 18 months.  The P&C have budgeted to source a loan that will fund a new building that will be used as a multi purpose building for the school and be the home of After School Care.  Further discussion will be had at upcoming meetings regarding this and future projects.  Many of the projects on the above list have been carried out following the schools master plan, which was established and implemented in 2006.

We hope that this gives our school community a good understanding of where your fundraising efforts have assisted your children’s education.
