All Queensland schools are required to report to our school communities on the progress of the school in prescribed areas. The intent of this report is to provide a set of information that is common for all State and Non-state Schools in Queensland. It provides an overview of the highlights and successes of Ashgrove State School during the 2010 school year.
The school in 2010 has been extremely active in developing school facilities and advancing curriculum and learning. There has been a major emphasis placed on teacher professional development as the school further embraces the reform agenda of Education Queensland. Over the last three years the results in the Year 3, 5 and 7 Tests have been exceptionally high, which is a reflection of the schools’ unrelenting focus on the development of a rich curriculum and ensuring quality teaching to all students in the school. I take pride in reporting that student results in the 2010 NAPLAN Year 3, 5 and 7 tests were considerably above State and National averages in every cohort on each aspect tested. The year three NAPLAN results was the distinguishing highlight, particularly in the area of reading which saw 81% of our student in the top two bands.

At Ashgrove State School we believe that all students should have the opportunity to engage in learning at a level appropriate to their cognitive ability and we believe it is imperative to respond to the different learning needs of our students.
A Gifted and Talented Policy has been developed and can be read here - additional copies of the appendices are available at the school office.
Education Queensland and the School have developed a policy to help cater for, and deal with, students who have anaphylactic reactions to some allergens.
Students enrolled at our school who suffer from significant health problems require an environment that is supportive and flexible to their individual needs. The purpose of this policy is to minimise the foreseeable risk of an anaphylactic reaction, and to make staff and parents/caregivers aware of the school based procedures that may be put in place to manage such reactions.

In late 2009, the results for the school opinion survey for 2009 were released. The results for Ashgrove were outstanding and indicated a tremendous level of support for the school from parents and students as well as high levels of staff morale. Schools across the Nation both state and private would love to have such a strong endorsement by their school communities. Special mention must go our wonderful team of school staff who have been pivotal in ensuring that we instil in all children a love of learning and in making children’s schooling a positive experience.
